An expired certificate makes browsers show a security warning. An expired domain takes your whole website offline. DataDad watches both for every website monitor, with no setup.
What DataDad checks
- SSL certificate: the certificate that each
https://monitor's host serves to visitors, checked once a day. - Domain: the registration of the project's domain, read from the registry once a day.
The monitor page shows both dates under Certificate and domain, with the certificate issuer and the domain registrar.
When you get a warning
| Item | Warnings |
|---|---|
| SSL certificate | 14, 7, 3 and 1 days before it expires |
| Domain | 30, 7 and 1 day before it expires |
Each warning goes out once. When you renew, the new date starts over.
Certificates that renew automatically, such as Let's Encrypt certificates, renew close to their end. DataDad warns only in the last fifth of a certificate's life, so a normal renewal does not alert you.
Who gets the warnings
Expiry warnings go to your alert contacts, by e-mail and in Discord, Google Chat and push notifications. Monitors with alerts turned off add no warnings.
